As part of UTP’s focus on continuous improvement we are proud to have secured the UK Government-approved Cyber Essentials Certificate. This certificate demonstrates UTP’s commitment to protecting both our IT assets and the information we hold on behalf of our customers.
“In this hyper-connected world we are very aware that cyber attacks do not respect the size of the organisation. We actively encourage everyone in the organisation to be responsible for protecting the company from unauthorised access on our networks. Such attacks can have devastating consequences for all concerned” says Martin Todd, Managing Director.
Cyber Essentials is a simple but effective, Government-backed scheme that will help you to protect your organisation, whatever its size, against a whole range of the most common cyber attacks.
The Cyber Essentials scheme addresses the most common internet-based threats to cyber security. In particular it addresses attacks that use widely available tools and demand little skill. The scheme considers these threats to be:
- hacking — exploiting known vulnerabilities in Internet-connected devices, using widely available tools and techniques
- phishing — and other ways of tricking users into installing or executing a malicious application
- password guessing — manual or automated attempts to log on from the Internet, by guessing passwords
Additionally, the Cyber Essentials scheme helps organisations to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data stored on devices which connect to the Internet, including:
- desktop and laptop PCs
- tablets and smartphones
- all types of server and networking equipment
The certification also enables UTP to bid for central government contracts which involve the provision of certain technical products and services.
Furthermore, UTP will be working in partnership with its IT supplier to secure the next stage of Cyber Essentials – Cyber Essentials Plus. UTP will also be exploring other ways to protect themselves and their customers.
